Sometimes people say that my love for Harry Potter is a bit over the top.
“Why?” I ask. “Just because the first thing you see when you enter my apartment is Harry’s gigantic face on a pillow?”
“YES!” they reply.
Well, it turns out that those people are 100% right — because recently I found HP infiltrating even my sleep!
A friend of mine is pregnant, and she’s making a list of potential baby names. The other night she posted on Facebook that she’s having trouble with girls’ names because she wants to pick a literary character, but all her favorites meet tragic ends. Of course, I immediately suggested Hermione (Granger)!
Well, apparently that’s all it took to trigger my Harry-obsessed imagination, because that night I had a crazy dream all about Hermione and her tragic love affair with… wait for it… Draco! (!!!!!)
Yep, I surprised even myself with that one! I’ve never been into the idea of a Draco/Hermione relationship, even though I know it’s a big deal in the Harry Potter fan fiction world. Personally, I’ve always favored Ron and Hermione as a couple because I like the way they balance each other out. But try telling that to my subconscious!
In my dream, Hermione and Draco find themselves united against a common enemy: some Barty Crouch/Cornelius Fudge figure in the Ministry has turned rogue and is causing problems for both the good guys and the bad guys. Somehow, Hermione and Draco are in a situation where they’re the only ones aware of this as other battles rage elsewhere — and therefore they’re forced to band together.
Of course, they develop romantic feelings for one another in the course of fighting side by side, and Hermione begins to hope that Draco might be brought over to the Order.
But alas, in the end Draco betrays her. He truly does care for her, but he believes that ultimately his place is on the dark side. So after an internal struggle, he chooses to let the troublesome Ministry official run amok, and he disapparates just at the moment when the bad guy jinxes Hermione and gets away. Hermione is awesome, so she quickly recovers from the spell. But her heart is broken, and it’s much harder to recover from that. End of dream.
So, what do you think???? High drama, no?
I’m not sure if this says more about how much I love the world of Harry Potter or how boring my everyday life is, but that was definitely the best dream I’ve had in a while! I just wish I could bottle it up and revisit it in the Pensieve whenever I wanted…
Alright, now that I’ve revealed the level of my HP obsession, don’t be shy — have any of you ever dreamt about the wizarding world? And what do you think of the crazy romance I concocted in my sleep? Could Dramione ever make it as a couple? Leave a comment with your thoughts!
