The Best Books of 2010 – Do You Agree?

December 9th, 2010 by

It’s almost the end of the year, and you know what that means… Well, yeah, it does mean holiday parties, school break, and begging your parents to stay up late on New Year’s Eve. But it also means it’s time for everyone to make their “Best of 2010” lists! And you’d better believe that kidlit fanatics are already battling it out online as everyone announces their favorite children’s books from this year.

Personally, I’m too indecisive to create my own list. Choose just a few books? That’s crazy talk! You might as well ask me to name only a handful of favorite foods. Torture! So instead, I’ve turned to the web for some back-up. Here’s a sampling of books that we’ve talked about on Kidsmomo this year, and that other folks have selected as the Best of 2010:

Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce

The tale of a 12-year-old who disguises himself as an adult and journeys into outer space, this story will also be hitting the big screen in the future.

Bink and Gollie by Kate DiCamillo and Alison McGhee (illustrated by Tony Fucile)

This sweet book about two best friends made several best-of lists, and I can see why; I loved this book too!

Countdown by Deborah Wiles

Historical fiction that’s told in a really cool format, this was my pick for our War Stories theme!

The Red Pyramid by Rick Riordan

In the first Kane Chronicles book (from the author of the Percy Jackson series), this time the focus is on Egyptian mythology. And we really could not shut up about it on Kidsmomo this year.

So, did any of those books make your best-of list this year? Leave a comment if you agree with these picks, or tell us about your personal favorites for 2010!

And if you’re dying to see a full round-up of best-of books from across the web, check out this awesome spreadsheet I discovered on a website for librarians — it combines all the lists into one!

Btw, Karen is apparently no help to people who want to know about the best books for adults. The other day, a friend asked her about the last NON-children’s book that she had read. Karen’s pretty sure it was published in 2008.
