Breaking Book News: “Wimpy Kid” Movie Trailer

January 23rd, 2010 by

Zoo wee mama! They just released the trailer for the upcoming Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie!

(Note: An ad may run automatically after the trailer is over. We at Kidsmomo have no control over the ad, and we don’t endorse what it promotes — I’ve watched the video a bunch of times, and so far it’s all cleaning products!)

So, what do you think of the trailer? The film, based on the book series by Jeff Kinney, is scheduled to hit theaters in April 2010, and I’ve been very curious about it since I first heard the news months ago. How would they translate Kinney’s illustrations into a live-action movie? Well, now we know!

Personally, I don’t love the look of the movie. It’s just so… real compared to the hilarious art from the books. And Zachary Gordon isn’t quite the Greg I imagined — not just because he actually has hair, but also in terms of his personality; he seems a little too innocent in this trailer.

But some of the other actors do seem perfect for their characters, IMHO — especially Grayson Russell as Fregley and Devon Bostick as Rodrick. And when Robert Capron (who plays Rowley) does that talking bellybutton thing? That definitely feels like it’s right out of the book. And the cheese touch scene? AWE-some!

What do YOU think? Will you see the movie? How do you think it stacks up to the books? Leave me a comment with your thoughts on the trailer!

I don’t like it either. I think the books are hilarious, but I don’t like some of the humor in it. So I don’t care whether i see it or not.

It’s weird that Greg has hair in the movie, but I think it’d be weirder if they found a boy who only had three tufts of hair atop his head…

It was so strange to see it be so…real! I think that’s why my favourite part was when they flashed between the drawing and the actor/character.
