Kidsmomo Podcast #25: “Royal Flush”
May 18th, 2010 by Kidsmomo
It’s good to be queen! At least, that’s how Karen felt while recording our latest podcast — because Nancy was sick in bed and refused to participate! Excuses, excuses… No matter; Karen still had plenty to say, all about books involving royalty:
-
(12:56)
- A rat that loves soup and a mouse that loves a (princess) pea — aka our mystery book revealed
- Princess power! — aka our royalty book picks (Once Upon a Marigold and Dealing with Dragons)
- A review from YOU (The Red Pyramid) from Douglas, age 9!
- There’s a new sheriff in town — aka our dream rules if we ran the world…

Also, don’t forget: our new theme is war stories, in honor of Memorial Day. So send us a review of your favorite book related to war and check out these books about war.

I think there should be a theme on books written in letter/diary form, like the Royal Diary series or P.S. Longer Letter Later.
” ‘By night and flame and shining rock
Open thou hidden lock.

As the sound of Kazul’s voice died away, the iron gate swung silently open. ‘That’s a very unusual opening spell,’ Cimorene commented, impressed.
‘It wasn’t always that complicated,’ Kazul said. She sounded almost apologetic. I believe the first version was very simple, just ‘Open sesame’, but word got around and we had to change it.’ ”
-Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede
That’s a great idea, Hahaha me! And your quote from Dealing with Dragons sums up the “tongue-in-cheek” humor that I was describing perfectly. I’m really glad I took your recommendation to read it!
