Last week, Karen and I thought it’d be hi-larious to post an April Fool’s joke about J.K. Rowling’s “secret” notes about Harry Potter. Now we’re turning quite an embarrassing shade of red, because when J.K. Rowling visited the White House for Easter last week, she did reveal some new information! Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s as juicy as what we conjured up…
She may want to do something else with the Harry Potter world… in 10 years.
My response: NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! :*(
Her favorite Harry Potter characters (besides Harry, Ron, and Hermione) are Hagrid, Dumbledore, Lupin, and Snape. But she wouldn’t want to meet Snape.
She would not want a house elf. She thinks despite being useful, they are a bit creepy.
Again, agreed. Super creepy. And sometimes weepy! (I made a rhyme… yuk yuk yuk!)
After Harry, the character she thought next was Hermione. In an early version of Sorcerer’s Stone, Hermione was Harry’s next door neighbor and Hermione’s father was first on the scene when Harry’s house was blown up. Hermione herself had seen Harry being taken from the rubble, and remembers the story when she first meets Harry.
WOW! I feel like the dynamic between Hermione and Harry (and by extension, Ron) would have been really different, because they would have had a shared history beyond their control… like it was fate for them to become friends? Also, if Hermione remembers, does that mean she was older than Harry in this early version? Post your alternate universe theories in the comments!
She’s enjoying writing right now, and but she’s not ready to say what she’s writing… but it’ll be coming out in the “not too distant future”… but it’s not Harry-related.
Again: NOOOOOOOOO!!!!! … Wait, actually… YESSSSSSSSSSS!!! Hey, even though it’s not Harry-related, I’ll take anything.
For more tidbits, you can watch this video of J.K. Rowling reading an excerpt from Sorcerer’s Stone at the White House’s Easter celebration. Skip to 11:44 for the Q&A section!
Thanks to Mugglenet for reporting this!
