Seuss Movie News: Johnny Depp!
October 22nd, 2011 by Nancy
I bet if ten years ago, you had told someone that edgy teen heartthrob Johnny Depp would be playing beloved children’s book author Dr. Seuss, they probably would have said, “WHAAAAAAAA?!”
But now Johnny Depp’s got a pretty good rep (ha ha, I made a rhyme) in the book world — he’s played Willy Wonka from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan author J.M. Barrie, and we’ll soon see him in the upcoming adaptation of The Invention of Hugo Cabret.
For the Seuss film, Johnny Depp will be producing the movie and potentially (I think, probably) starring as Seuss himself (aka Theodor Geisel). The movie will be a live-action depiction of Seuss’ life; no word yet on whether the Cat in the Hat will make an appearance. Dr. Seuss was born in 1904 and passed away in 1991, so we’ll be seeing clothes and settings from all over the past century!
So, what do you think? Any resemblance?

In other movie news, Nancy was VERY excited to hear that the movie adaptation of Sea of Monsters (Percy Jackson and the Olympians #2) is finally back in production 🙂 … but scheduled to release in 2013. Why. Is. The. Wait. So. Long?!!?!!? 🙁
