Big announcement: My Basmati Bat Mitzvah is an AWESOME book, and you can enter for a chance to win your own autographed copy!
Full disclosure: We know the author, Paula J. Freedman, personally. But we promise, we’re not fans of the book just because we’re friends with Paula. It’s truly a really good book, and we’d say that even if we didn’t know the author!
That’s because the characters are realistic, the writing is both funny and moving, and the subject is interesting — and not covered nearly enough in other books:
Tara is half Indian and half Jewish, and she’s trying to decide whether she’s going through with her upcoming Bat Mitzvah. A) She’s worried she’ll lose some of her Indian side if she does it. And B) She’s not even sure she believes in God.
But those aren’t her only worries. Tara is also dealing with Sheila, a girl she really DOES NOT like (and the feeling seems mutual). Plus, why is Ben-o, her best friend since forever, acting so weird around her all of of a sudden?
By now, we bet you’re dying to run out and get your hands on a copy of this book. Well, do it! But when you read it, be sure to keep it nice and clean — you’ll want to give it to a friend if you win our sweepstakes. Why? Three (count ’em, THREE) winners will get their own autographed copy of the book, plus some other cool stuff:
Enter by November 15th! You must be under age 18 to enter. See official rules.
This sweepstakes is now closed.
Paula also invited us on an exciting night out — we went shopping for Paula’s favorite Indian snacks and then went out for dinner at a South Indian restaurant! Check out the photo gallery below for pics, with captions from Paula herself!
If you’re still not convinced about the total and absolute awesomeness of this book, then check out this video of author Paula J. Freedman reading an excerpt! We took this video at the book release party in Brooklyn:
