Karen’s Top 5 Kidsmomo Moments

August 6th, 2014 by

You guys. We are OLD.

“So what? We already knew that!”

Is that what you’re saying right now? Well, I’m not referring to the fact that Nancy and I are super old fogeys compared to you guys. I’m actually referring to the fact that Kidsmomo is almost five years old!

Our fifth birthday is on Friday, so today I’m sharing my five favorite Kidsmomo moments from over these past years. And tomorrow, Nancy will share her list!

But enough explanation, let’s get to it!

KAREN’S TOP 5 KIDSMOMO MOMENTS:

5. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory book trailer

If you’ve learned anything about us in the last five years, it’s that we looooooooove food. So obviously, I looooooooove this video that we created to showcase some of Willy Wonka’s craziest (and most enticing) candy inventions. Of course, we couldn’t present these delectable innovations as just a plain old menu, so we had to go over the top ourselves — television infomercial style!

4. Food Fight

Hmmmm, my #4 choice also seems to be related to food. Could I be sensing a trend here?

Well, back in 2010, we took our love for stuffing our faces into the kitchen and competed against each other in a cooking competition. We each chose a recipe inspired by a favorite book and then pitted our edible masterpieces against one another. See how our panel of judges rated the results:

3. Hoboken Chicken Emergency video

Sock puppets and a “giant” chicken made out of construction paper. How could this video (inspired by Daniel Pinkwater’s book) not make my top five list?

2. LeakyCon 2011

You’re already fully aware that I’m a huge dork, so I feel no shame in saying that attending this Harry Potter fan convention was definitely one of the highlights of my last five years. I’m so glad I got to share the experience with the Kidsmomo audience, from wizard wrock concerts to Quidditch matches to costumes, from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter to an early movie screening of Deathly Hallows, Part 2.

Below are a few of my fave pics from LeakyCon 2011. Check out our full coverage now, and stay tuned for our report from LeakyCon 2014 very soon!

1. The Witches video

For some reason, this video trailer for the classic book by Roald Dahl beats out even the epic experience of LeakyCon 2011 and earns the #1 spot on my list. I don’t know, I guess I just really crack myself up with my own silly witch accent! (And it doesn’t hurt that Dahl’s source materials is hilarious.)

And that’s my Top 5 Kidsmomo moments from the last five years! Don’t forget to tune in tomorrow to see Nancy’s list!

Not to be super cheesy, but Karen would also like to mention that it’s been a real treat to interact with you guys, our readers, over the last five years. Getting all your comments and book reviews is truly the best part of doing Kidsmomo. Even better than Karen’s witch voice.

Happy Blogiversary! If it makes you feel younger, I’ve been blogging for almost nine years AND my baby pictures are in black and white!
