The Breadwinner is a realistic fiction. It talks about a girl in Afghanistan. The protagonist is Parvana. The antagonist is the Taliban. The major theme of the book are violence against people, human rights, lack of egalitarianism, and double standards. Most of this is cause by the power of the talibans. The relationship in the book between Parvana and Shauzia is deep because they were both making money to feed their family and Parvana has to feed her family because her father is not there.
The author wrote about a book in the 20th century in Afghanistan capital Kabul. The author did a good job because she used a lot of descriptive writing, some onomatopoeia to describe what it feels in Afghanistan. I think the main character is believable because Parvana is the victim of the Taliban. Parvana’s story is similar to Malala’s. Who she got shot for standing up to the Taliban and was lucky to survive. She told people that it is unfair the girl can’t go the school and learn. She won the nobel prize in 2014. She won it because she said girl needs to go to school.
I found the authors writing what it was like in Afghanistan very interesting. I don’t like the authors writing when Parvana’s father got capture at the first. However, I think the author should have described more of Parvana’s father more.
I like this book because it has good use of metaphor. For example, “Are they dead? Parvana asked. No no, not dead the roots are still alive.” I like another thing of this book is surprised that the author puts in the ending. I recommend this book to the people who like to learn about Afghanistan and there is a lot of information in this book. I think the ages 8-14 years old would enjoy this book. I would not recommend this book to the people under 6 years old because some scary parts. This book has surprise, good metaphors and teaching about Talibans. I find this book really interesting because the Talibans didn’t recognize Parvana when they dress her up as a boy. I find another thing interesting is that there are exciting part and action stuff. I would love to recommend this book the other people. I think I will read the other books about Parvana because to find out how it all turns out.
