The Breadwinner

The Breadwinner is an amazing book. It is a book about a young girl and her family who live in Afghanistan. Parvana the protagonist struggled under the oppression of the Taliban. The major themes within the book are survival because she has to lives in a non egalitarian society. She goes through things that you wouldn’t believe that was legal in Afghanistan.

The author used lots of strong verbs and adjectives in her writing. She made me feel like I transported there. If there was a bad or scary part in the book she would soften the blow by putting in a happy or a sad part in to. She taught me about how lucky we are to where we do and have an egalitarian society to live in.

I think that the appropriate age group for this book would be 8 or 9 because the book had some violence in it. I would recommend this book to readers who can take the violence.

I found the book a very exciting, it kept me wanting to read more and more. It had parts where it was almost hopeless for Parvana to live her life .Some parts were it was so disturbing you didn’t want to read any more but what I love is that the author put in a happy part in with the bad parts. She made you feel like you were right there with Parvana and her family. This is my take on the Breadwinner book review.
