The Qwikpick Papers: Poop Fountain – Book Review

September 14th, 2014 by

the-qwikpick-papers-poop-fountainThe most important thing I can tell you about this book is that the subtitle is “Poop Fountain.” If that grosses you out, then I beg of you: DO NOT read this book.

Because there’s a lot of poop in it. A LOT.

But if you’re like Dave, Lyle, and Marilla and you’re open to getting a little dirty in the name of exploration and excitement, then The Qwikpick Papers by Tom Angleberger just might be the book for you.

Lyle, Marilla, and Dave form the Qwikpick Adventure Society because they’re bored of all the lame one-upmanship that happens at school. And also they want to make sure they do something truly awesome on Christmas Day because none of them celebrate the holiday. At first, they consider marking the occasion by opening a mysterious 50-gallon barrel of banana puree that’s been sitting in an empty lot for a long time, but then they hear about something even crazier… a poop fountain at the local wastewater treatment plant — and it’s about to be turned off forever!

Well, I think you can guess where they spend the day. But I won’t tell you exactly what happens. Instead, you’ll have to read the book!

If you’re a fan of Tom Angleberger’s Origami Yoda series, you will definitely enjoy this story. Like those books, this one is formatted like a case file — including photographic evidence and unofficial notes by Lyle that are not meant for Dave and Marilla to see.

If you’ve already read this book or if you’re an Origami Yoda fan, let me know in the comments! Also, leave a comment if there’s another funny gross-out book that you’d recommend!

Karen has never seen a poop fountain in her life, and she hopes it stays that way.
