Recipe for an AWESOME book:

  • 2 Sisters, named DiDi and GiGi
  • 1 Perfect Boy with Wish Pie Eyes
  • 1 Spirited Arch-Nemesis with Death Glare
  • 3 New Friends (add more for taste)
  • 1 Well-done Plot
  • 1 Delicious Dash of Mystery
  • 1 Big Family Secret

The Truth About Twinkie Pie_Kat YehMix it all together, and what comes freshly-baked out of the oven? The Truth About Twinkie Pie by Kat Yeh!

Meet brainy 12-year-old GiGi (short for Galileo Galilei) and her junior-high-school-dropout sister DiDi (short for Delta Dawn, just like their mother). They’ve moved from a trailer park in South Carolina to a wealthy “walking town” on Long Island, New York. Even though DiDi has just won A MILLION DOLLARS in a national cooking contest, she insists on spending little and saving as much as possible for GiGi’s education.

When GiGi starts at her fancy new private school, she seizes the opportunity to try out her own “Recipe for Success“: she wants to reinvent herself and instead of studying all the time, make friends. Her dish starts off great: After literally tripping over Trip (the nicest, coolest guy in school), they become fast friends. But then the recipe sours a bit: GiGi becomes a target for mean girl Mace. But the recipe isn’t a total disaster! She makes friends in the Stargazing Club… but while she’s cooking up her Recipe for Success, her relationship with her big sister may taste a little bitter.

As usual, I don’t want to spoil anything, so I encourage everyone to pick up a copy of The Truth About Twinkie Pie and read it for yourself! There’s an amazing reveal after normally goody-goody GiGi decides to run away from home. But not all plans and recipes turn out the way she wants, and she ends up with an unexpected companion
