This book might look like a boring story like one of those picture books about a kid and dog. But it’s really not. This book is about a girl who came with her father to a new town. Opal, the 10-year-old girl, wants to meet people, make new friends, and is lonely for her mother who left her when she was just a baby. But all changes when she meets a dog at a grocery store, whom she takes in and names the dog Winn Dixie after the grocery store where she found him. After finding the dog, Opal’s life turns around. From befriending a librarian and a lonely woman to working at a pet store to being invited to a birthday party and making her father come out of his shell to tell Opal about her mother, Winn Dixie is making everything happen. This is a heartwarming story about a dog who helps a young girl through her life as a companion.

In classics, the author usually drones on and on about things that nobody cares about (kind of like I’m doing now). So I don’t like them. My definition of a classic is “action-lacking and boring”. But this summer I found a classic that blew me away! When Anne, an energetic red-head orphan who has been shuffled around through different families all her life goes to live with Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, she wants nothing more than to stay in Green Gables for good. At first, Marilla is objective and doesn’t want Anne to stay, but soon Anne’s spirit gets to her. Anne gets into problems all the time, and has a vivid imagination. My favorite part is when Anne is acting out a scene from a book and is floating out in a pond in a leaky boat! And this book is NOT boring. (Climbing up on a roof for and falling off, smashing a chalkboard over a boy’s head.) I’d say there are two types of classics: The boring ones and the ones that really deserve to be honored. I know where I would put Anne of Green Gables. Read it!

This is a book in the Molly series of American Girl. It’s a good read, about when a girl named Molly goes to Summer camp with her two friends, Linda and Susan. My favorite part is when the girls are divided into two teams and they play capture the flag-it’s really funny! Sorry, I’m not going to tell you about it- you’re going to have to read it for yourself!

I first heard of this book when my teacher said she recommended it. But it looked kind of dumb, so I never did bother to read it. That is, until my teacher read it to my classmates and I. I loved it so much, I read it again by myself!

Knucklehead is a hilarious memoir by Jon Sciezka, telling of his childhood memories of living with his five brothers, Jim, Tom, Gregg, Brian, and Jeff. This book is full of funny memories and tons of photos. I really enjoyed the part when they brought the cat in the car with them and something hilarious happened. So you’re probably wondering what happened, right? Well, sorry, but you’re going to have to read this funny memior to find out!

This is an awesome book for anyone who loves suspenseful stories! It’s about a family named the Tillermans who’s mother abandons them. So Dicey, the oldest, takes care of her three siblings while trying to find a home for them to live in. They are forced to live by themselves with little money and no shelter. They decide to go to their great-aunts house, but that’s not easy. It’s an adventures stories that will leave you wondering until the end. It’s amazing how those kids could survive on their own for so long!

The book i have submitted is everything a book can be. It is about a girl who smells sees and senses certain bodies that call to her. When this girl is in her teenage years a guy in her town starts a killing spree. I almost forgot to mention it’s not all gruesome it is about the girl’s life as well. You will never be able to put the book down because of the suspension and a little teenage love.

Hope you enjoy it like I do.

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Even though Lise’s family has no father, her mother makes up for it all. She always gets what she wants when she wants it. Lise feels comfortable in her family of one brother, one mother and a slobbery dog, Babe. Until her pushy mom gets in a car crash—and decides to lug the family up to Fiddle Beach, Maine, where she grew up, to spend the summer. Lise hates the ocean, hates how her life is falling apart and REALLY hates how her mom is falling apart too. How is she supposed to survive?

I have to say I LOVE this book mostly because it takes place in Maine, my home state. I thought Lise was a complete wimp to think the water is cold (no, it’s not), and how she chooses to eat hamburgers over lobster just because she didn’t want the lobsters to die! I was laughing at her, but at the same time on her side. Sand Dollar Summer is short and funny, but serious at the same time. I think the best part of the book is that there is no other book with the same theme. Think about it—there are SO many books about a kid moving to another town or state, or about a kid who needs to win the little league baseball championships. How many books have a car crash, a brother how doesn’t speak, the beach and lobsters in it all together? One. So read it!

I just finished reading the first Warriors series. I liked the sixth book best, The Darkest Hour. I thought the battle between the clans and Blood Clan was exciting. My least favorite was book five because I thought the bad guys were kind of boring.

I liked this series but I don’t know if I’ll read the others. But maybe I will sometime in the future.
