What Are Your Keepers?
December 24th, 2011 by Karen
Recently, my group at work moved offices from one floor to another, and we were told that everyone would be getting a lot less space. So after I cried a bit about that, I set to work getting rid of books that I wouldn’t have shelf space for in my new seat.
I wish I had one of those home libraries with floor-to-ceiling bookcases and ladders with wheels to reach the shelves at the top. (And while we’re at it, throw in some cushy window seats and a never-ending hot cocoa machine.) But since I have limited space both at work and at home, I had to bid farewell to A LOT of boos.
I contacted a charity on behalf of my whole group, to take all our extra books and give them a good home with kids in need. But still, there were some books I absolutely could not bear to part with.
Among my “keepers” were:
- Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli
- The Invention of Hugo Cabret and Wonderstruck by Brian Selznick
- Half Magic and other books by Edward Eager
- Savvy by Ingrid Law
- The BFG by Roald Dahl
- The School Story by Andrew Clements
- Remember Me to Harold Square by Paula Danziger
- Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen
- The Baby-Sitters Club Graphic Novel #1: Kristy’s Great Idea by Raina Telgemeier
So, what about you? What books are your “keepers”? Which ones could you never say goodbye to? Leave a comment and let me know!

To make space at home, Karen rearranged all of her CDs on her bookcase. Do you guys even know what those are? Ha ha, Karen’s so OLD!
