Vote for Children’s Choice Book Awards 2014

March 26th, 2014 by

Lately, I’ve heard lots of people talking about March Madness — who they’re rooting for, which games they’re looking forward to most, how sad they are that so-and-so is out of the running now… BLAH BLAH BLAH.

blah-blah-blah

Here’s the competition that I care about: the Children’s Choice Book Awards!

childrens-choice-book-awardsAs you may recall from last year, the awards are always a big part of Children’s Book Week (this year it’s May 12-18). Karen is seriously disturbed by the cover showing an alligator in the toilet. Also by the idea of bugs in her hair. Are these horror books or what?

Finally! We solve the biggest mystery of 2012 (thus far): how to pronounce “Jarrett J. Krosocscka,” author of the Lunch Lady series and host of this year’s Children’s Choice Book Awards!

Check out this unbelievable, action-packed, hilarious introduction to the awards gala, starring our hero/host Jarrett J. Krosocska, last year’s host Jon Sciezka as the villain, and other awesome kids’ book authors:

Karen posted the finalists in each category last month, and now here are the winners!

For more, you can watch the whole awards ceremony. Or, watch the ceremony and then read all the 2012 winners and finalists. Or, eat a banana and then read all of the 2012 winners and finalists. I think you and I both know what I’m getting at.

Nancy has read all of the winners except one, but she won’t reveal which one. Hint: it’s not Author of the Year Jeff Kinney.

Children’s Choice Book Awards 2012

April 20th, 2012 by

Based on all your comments about this year’s Kids Choice Awards, it sounds like you guys are not so pleased with the results. Well, now’s your chance to cast your vote in another kidlit competition: the Children’s Choice Book Awards!

You have until May 3rd to vote, and then the winners will be announced at a big gala celebration in NYC. Last year, Nancy and I attended the gala (and positively swooned like crazed fans as we mingled with super celeb authors like Rick Riordan, Jeff Kinney, and R.L. Stine).

Around that time, there will also be a bunch of events around the country to celebrate Children’s Book Week. From Los Angeles to Washington, DC — and in cities in between — there are parties planned all over the nation!

Of course, even if you can’t make it to any of these events, we’ll report back to you on all the Children’s Choice Book Awards winners. But obviously, in order for there to be winner, YOU need to vote first!

The finalists are…

For Grades 3-4:

bad-kitty-meets-the-baby funeral-in-the-bathroom monstrous-book-of-monsters sidekicks squish

For Grades 5-6:

bad_island how_to_survive_anything lost_and_found okay_for_now racing_in_the_rain

And you can also vote for Author of the Year and Illustrator of the Year. Finalists include Brian Selznick, Christopher Paolini, and Rachel Renée Russell!

So, who will you vote for? Leave a comment and let me know! And maybe this time, your pick will actually be crowned!

— Karen

Karen has read only a few of these books, so her self-esteem is pretty low right now. 🙁 Better get to the library!

Children’s Choice Book Awards – WINNERS!

May 6th, 2011 by

Monday is not usually anyone’s favorite day of the week. But this past Monday was EPIC. At least for Karen and Nancy. Why?

Well, on Monday evening, we both raced out of our respective offices in a big hurry — but not before posting this online status: On the way to Children’s Choice Book Awards! So excited!!!!! And another ! for good measure! That’s right, we were invited to attend the Children’s Choice Book Awards Gala!

If you recall from Nancy’s post about the nominees, the Children’s Choice Book Awards ask YOU to vote on your favorite books, authors, and illustrators. What Nancy didn’t tell you was that the winners are announced at a fantastic party, attended by all manner of amazing authors! But we promise, we weren’t intentionally withholding information. We just didn’t know about the gala until a few days before. And then you can bet your sweet potatoes that we got ourselves on the guest list pronto!

Who else was on the guest list? Glad you asked! We got autographs and pictures with a few of the esteemed authors in attendance (Nancy was so excited to stand next to them, we had to Photoshop in a more accurate representation of her joy).

Children’s Choice Book Awards 2011

April 17th, 2011 by

Last year, Karen let you know about the super cool Children’s Choice Book Awards, which lets YOU vote on your favorite books, authors, and illustrators. Last year’s winners for favorite books turned out to be Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute (Grades 3-4 Category) and Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-so-fabulous Life (Grades 5-6 Category).

So what will it be this year? Check out the finalists!

For Grades 3-4:

For Grades 5-6

While the finalists for the Grades 5-6 category are pretty different from last year (and so hard to choose from!), there are a few returning series for Grades 3-4. Will Lunch Lady prevail again? Make sure your vote counts!

Finalists for Favorite Author include returning finalist Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid series) and Rick Riordan… That’s a battle of wits and writing I don’t want get in the middle of!

What will you be voting for? Tell us why in the comments!

— Nancy

Nancy just noticed that if you look at the Grades 5-6 category above, the book covers say: “It’s a Book. Smile.” … and she totally did!

Children’s Choice Book Awards

April 8th, 2010 by

Recently, I encouraged you to vote in the Favorite Book category for Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards. And it’s awesome that they included a book category, but let’s face it: when I watched the show, it was obvious that the focus was on slime, celebrities, and more slime — not on reading.

Well, now you can cast your vote in a battle that’s all about books and nothing but books: the Children’s Choice Book Awards! (Did I mention it celebrates books?)

You have until May 3rd to vote, but this ain’t no school assignment — don’t put it off until the last minute, just go vote now!

The finalists are…

For Grades 3-4:

The Book That Eats People Coretta Scott Gonzalo Grabs the Good Life Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute Oceanology

For Grades 5-6:

The Adventures of Benny Dork Diaries Moonshot Outlaw Zoobreak

And you can also vote for Author of the Year and Illustrator of the Year. Finalists include Rick “Percy Jackson” Riordan, James “Maximum Ride” Paterson, and Jeff “Wimpy Kid” Kinney.

Who will you vote for? Leave a comment and let me know!

— Karen
