The new movie Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole really SOARED opening weekend, coming in at #2 at the box office. But did the story — adapted from Kathryn Lasky’s Guardians of Ga’Hoole book series — really FLY on the big screen? Was it a HOOT? Or is it FOR THE BIRDS? And just how many owl puns can we fit into this paragraph?
Lucky for you, that paragraph is over — so we’re done with the bad jokes and now you can watch our video review of Legend of the Guardians. (Be sure to stay tuned until the end for a rousing game of Owl or Cheese!)
(PS – If you want to listen to our review ON THE FLY, you can download the audio. Sorry, couldn’t resist one more bird pun…)

Bryce and Juli, sittin' in a tree... (Yeah, we're immature. What of it?)
Juli hearts Bryce. But Bryce hates Juli. OR DOES HE? If you’ve read the book Flipped by Wendelin van Draanen, then you know how their story goes — and you also know how awesome it is! Seriously, Nancy and Karen want to marry this book; we doodle hearts in the page margins while dreaming of romantic moonlit walks with this book; we call this book and then hang up when it answers. For reals.
So, of course, we could barely contain our excitement over the movie adaptation. (You may recall Karen’s giddy post announcing the upcoming film.)
And did the movie live up to our expectations? Is Flipped a hit? Or did Flipped flop? You’ll just have to watch our video review to find out:
(PS – If you’re on the go — say, climbing a sycamore tree or running away from a neighbor who wants to kiss you — don’t worry, you can still listen to our review. Just download the audio.)

“Who could love a girl named Beezus?” Selena Gomez poses this question in the movie Ramona and Beezus, which opened last weekend. And here’s our answer: WE could — and we do!
Both Karen and Nancy left the theater with huge grins on their faces, and much love for both Quimby sisters — but especially Joey King as the irrepressible Ramona. Why? Well, you’ll have to tune into our video review to find out:
(PS – If you’re like Ramona and would rather use your imagination, feel free to skip the visuals and download the audio.)
Up, up, and away!
If only we had wings, then both of us here at Kidsmomo would be soaring sky-high and doing crazy loop-de-loops right now.
Why? Because we LOVED the new movie How to Train Your Dragon, based on the book by Cressida Cowell.
Check out our video review of the film:
(Some of those dragons sure are ghastly. If you’d prefer not to lay eyes on the beasts, just download the audio of our review!)

A while back, we reported the news that the Disney Channel would be making a movie based on the much-loved children’s book Harriet the Spy by Louise Fitzhugh. What we should have said was that Disney would be taking the original story, twisting it all around like the world’s craziest pretzel, and stomping all over it with steel-toed boots — and then sweeping up the mess, throwing it out onto the street, and running it over with a monster truck. Yes, it was that bad.
Yeah, we know the trailer looks fun. And if you really want to, you can catch the movie when it reruns on the Disney Channel tomorrow night (April 4th) or Monday afternoon (April 5th). Watch it if you must. But you’ve been warned! And we’ve got plenty of proof — in the spirit of Harriet and her notebook, we documented our observations of the movie in real-time over IM.
Things seemed promising at the start as the setting and characters were introduced: Karen: Okay, it’s starting! Nancy: OK, I see the titles Nancy: the city? Karen: Manhattan! Karen: The title! Nancy: HARRIET THE SPY BLOG WARS! Karen: YES! Karen: I like how this really looks like NYC. Karen: Hey, it’s the girl from Degrassi! Karen: Hey, it’s another girl from Degrassi! Nancy: “Sport” looks like JTT to me Nancy: that’s former teen heartthrob Jonathon Taylor Thomas for all you non-old people out there Karen: Since I’m an old person, I knew exactly who you meant. But I didn’t respond because I disagree.

I'm not sure I see the resemblance...
Unless you’re one of those morons Greg is always complaining about in the books, then you’re surely familiar with the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney. And you’re probably aware that a new movie based on the first book is out in theaters now.
But did you know that Nancy does a pretty amazing Fregley impression? Or that Karen thinks Rowley is kind of a doofus?
It’s all in our video review of the new film, so check it out:
It’s true, our visuals can’t compare to Jeff Kinney’s awesome illustrations. If you want to avert your eyes, you can download the audio of our review!

In Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, the White Queen tells Alice about her rule regarding jam consumption: it’s allowed “every other day,” which actually means “jam to-morrow and jam yesterday — but never jam to-day.” If you like jam, that’s a pretty annoying rule, but in the case of the new Alice in Wonderland movie from Tim Burton, we’re with the White Queen all the way. In other words, watch this movie every other day, but NEVER ever to-day.
That’s right — two big frowny faces for this film. Why? Watch our video review to find out:

Whether you’re a water-loving child of Poseidon, the master strategist offspring of Athena, or a quick-tempered Ares descendant, we know there’s only one movie on your mind right now — Lightning Thief, based on Book 1 in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
The film hit theaters on February 12th, and of course we were there to catch it on opening weekend. But the question is: should you see it too? Tune in to our video review to find out — and to hear us make fools of ourselves performing a special tribute to Percy (seriously, how can you resist?):

The new movie version of Roald Dahl’s Fantastic Mr. Fox starts with these song lyrics — and so does our video review of the film.

yawn! or, rawr! (take your pick)
