What if you held the directions to a treasure hunt in your hands — but you couldn’t read them? I’d definitely be frustrated because, well, let’s face it: I am not a patient person.
But in The Puzzling World of Winston Breen by Erin Berlin, our hero finds himself in this situation, and he’s delighted!
That’s because Winston loves puzzles, and this treasure hunt involves cracking a few secret codes. But Winston can’t do it alone — he’s forced to team up with his younger sister, two potentially dangerous strangers, the town librarian, and an intimidating ex-cop. Plus, a few other characters I won’t reveal here — you’ll meet them along the treasure hunt!
If you like puzzles, I guarantee you’ll love this book. Not only are there codes that the treasure-seeking team needs to solve, but there are also TONS of other puzzles scattered throughout the story (with solutions in the back of the book, if you’re just as impatient as I am).
And if you don’t like puzzles, well, you can still enjoy the book. It’s a gripping mystery that I stayed up late to finish — I just HAD to know how it would end!
Okay, I admit it, I peeked ahead a little while I was reading. Like I said: impatient…
