The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George SpeareSubmitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

Rating: ★★★★☆

From her first sight of the Connecticut Colony, Kit knew life would be different. The Puritan community she lives in is harsh and expecting. She is not easily welcomed into her new home. Until the day she finds Hannah, the lonely old woman who lives in an isolated meadow. Hannah is kind and friendly, but some call her a witch…

The Witch of Blackbird Pond is mysterious and thoughtful. Read it before you’re forced to read it in school! Somehow teachers have a way of choosing the worst books to read–but The Witch of Blackbird Pond is better than an old dusty book on the library shelf!

Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren

Pippi Longstocking by Astrid LindgrenSubmitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

Rating: ★★★★☆

Don’t let me lie:  Pippi is NOT an average girl of her age. Her full name, she insists, is…)to long to bother telling). Pippi sleeps with her feet on the pillow. She has a monkey. She has a horse, and no stable! Pippi has a wild imagination that always keeps her entertained. Her life is not like other nine-year-old girls. In my opinion, her life is even better.

Yeah, this book is old-fashioned-ish. And yes, it is one of those AMAZING old-fashioned-ish books. This book is funny, thought-provoking and makes you want to jump right into the pages of it. It is ridiculous that Pippi Longstocking is not a great classic yet!
