Video Time: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

February 3rd, 2011 by

Back in September, Nancy visited the new Harry Potter theme park in Orlando and proceeded to make me absolutely insane with jealousy by live-blogging throughout her magical experience.

Well, I FINALLY traveled to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter myself about a week ago, and you’d think that given my own suffering, I wouldn’t gloat and totally flaunt my trip in your faces… but you’d be wrong! Because now I will proceed to drive you guys crazy with envy by sharing some video footage from my time in Hogsmeade. Enjoy! (Muhahaha…)

This first video is from Ollivander’s, where we witnessed a Hogwarts newbie finding his perfect wand:

Visiting Harry Potter World (live-blogging!) Part 1

September 23rd, 2010 by

Guess what? I’m headed to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter TODAY! I was so excited I couldn’t even get dressed this morning — stayed in my pajamas for the flight. (Also, it’s more comfy).

Unfortunately, I ran into a little detour on the way from NYC — I’m stuck in Atlanta, Georgia waiting for my connecting flight to Orlando, Florida. I’m so close! I can almost taste the butterbeer!

Okay, they’re calling me to the airport gate now… (seriously, I’m being yelled at). Stay tuned for additional coverage and photos!

Okay, I know it won’t take me six days to get there, but it sure seems like it!

Harry Potter Theme Park: Now Open!

June 24th, 2010 by

If you’ve spent any amount of time at all on Kidsmomo, then you know that Nancy and I are HUGE Harry Potter fans. To the point where the characters actually take over our dreams. And we cook food based on the books. For serious.

So, of course, we’re super excited about the grand opening of the Harry Potter theme park in Orlando, Florida last week!

We’ve been following news of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter (as it’s officially called) for a while now. And you’d better believe that both of us already have trips planned — but not for months. Nancy’s heading out there in September, but I decided to be extra clever and schedule my visit for the winter. I figured that a vacation to Florida would be the perfect escape from the cold New York weather in January or February. So smart, right?

Although, it looks like it's always winter in the theme park's version of Hogsmeade... (Photo courtesy of Universal Studios)

Well, apparently, I totally underestimated my own undying love for Harry Potter, because I didn’t expect the intense physical yearning that I’ve been feeling over the last week as I’ve seen all the news coverage of the theme park’s grand opening. Oh, how I wish I could apparate myself there right now!

I guess I might feel differently if I were actually standing in this huge crowd, though. (Photo from MuggleNet)

Alas, I’d probably splinch myself, so I guess I’ll just have to make do with photos and videos from luckier Muggles than I. At least, there are A TON of those photos and videos! Although, come to think of it, that’s not really helping me get over my deep and sorrowful sense of longing to be there myself… And yet I CAN’T TEAR MY EYES AWAY!

Look, it's Daniel Radcliffe on the Flight of the Hippogriff ride, holding on for dear life -- and trying not to squish that little kid next to him! (Photo courtesy of Universal Studios)

If you’re like me and want to see more photos like the ones included in this post, check out the official Wizarding World of Harry Potter site.

They also have lots of videos, like this one below — my personal favorite. Emma Watson is adorable!

Anyway, for all you fellow HP fans out there, what are your thoughts on the new theme park? Leave a comment with your opinion! (But if you’re planning to get out there before me or Nancy, please DO NOT leave a comment — or you might find that we’ve stolen your tickets…)

The last time Karen went to a theme park, it was Disney World, and she only ate ice cream and funnel cake the whole day. She was 25 years old.
