WonderStruck was a book filled will excitement and mystery and with 2 storylines about 2 completely different people in different times. In the start there’s the girl named Rose and she’s deaf,
and it’s also about a boy named Ben he was half deaf. Ben wanted to find his family and Rose tried to escape her evil mom that forced her to practice sign language. In my opinion the book was filled with adventures, mysteries and misunderstanding. Will he ever find his family?

Wonderstruck is an awesome realistic fiction book written by Brian Selznick. In this book a boy’s (Ben) mother dies in a car accident and he stays with his aunt and uncle. He makes a phone call and “bam” he is struck by lightning. He has to be transfered to a hospital because he is deaf. He runs away and travels to New York to find his dad. Who will he meet on his way and will he actually find his dad? Read to find out more.

Brian Selznick Live! (WONDERSTRUCK Launch Party)

September 15th, 2011 by

This week I was lucky enough to go to a launch party for Brian Selznick’s new book Wonderstruck, which I raved about in our Fall Preview themed podcast.

The party was held at the NYC bookstore Books of Wonder, which got a bit of a makeover for the night and became Books of Wonderstruck!

Check out this awesome display in the window of the bookstore — if you don’t quite understand what’s there… well, I recommend picking up a copy of Wonderstruck. 🙂 After you finish reading this, of course.

The event itself was even more awe-inspiring than the window display! Brian Selznick did an audio/visual presentation, answered questions from the audience, and signed copies of his books. And the whole thing was interpreted by a professional American Sign Language interpreter, which was fitting because some of the characters in Wonderstruck are deaf.

Of course, all of this made me even more excited for Hugo, the upcoming film adaptation of Brian Selznick’s book The Invention of Hugo Cabret!

Have you picked up (the very heavy) Wonderstruck yet? If so, send in a review to be featured on the Kidsmomo podcast or leave a comment!
