World Read Aloud Day 2012
March 4th, 2012 by Nancy
SHHHHH!
That’s what you hear often in the library. But on Tuesday, March 7, you might get a chance to SHOUT at the top of your lungs*… because it’s World Read Aloud Day!
The goal of World Read Aloud Day is to promote literacy all over the globe — but you can get started in your own backyard! Or front yard. Or both, I suppose, if you clone yourself.
Anyway…
I usually prefer reading in complete silence — not even any music playing in the background. I usually become so intensely engrossed in my book that when someone comes up to me, I’ll get startled and scream, “BLARGHHAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!” really loud, jump three feet in the air, and position my arms in a defensive ninja-style stance.
But I’ll make an exception for World Read Aloud Day. And whatever your style of reading, why not kick it up a notch and read out loud a bit, to share the love? In honor of this sentiment, Karen and I decided to record ourselves reading some of our favorite book passages:

What awesome book will YOU be sharing on World Read Aloud Day?

*Nancy and Kidsmomo advise readers to first check with their librarians before potentially disrupting the serene library atmosphere by shouting, “I LOVE READING, OH YES I DO! I LOVE READING, HOW ABOUT YOU!?!”
