Percy Jackson Movie Review
February 21st, 2010 by Kidsmomo
Whether you’re a water-loving child of Poseidon, the master strategist offspring of Athena, or a quick-tempered Ares descendant, we know there’s only one movie on your mind right now — Lightning Thief, based on Book 1 in Rick Riordan’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians series.
The film hit theaters on February 12th, and of course we were there to catch it on opening weekend. But the question is: should you see it too? Tune in to our video review to find out — and to hear us make fools of ourselves performing a special tribute to Percy (seriously, how can you resist?):

Hilarious end with the karaoke! But I FURIOUS about them making another movie. I didn’t like the movie in the first place because they switched EVERYTHING around (and didn’t include a lot of main things either).
My opinion is 🙁
That was an AWESOME movie. I can`t believe you gave it a :(. I saw it on a huge screen with a lot of popcorn with my uncle and while i admit it was very different from the book, I give a 🙂 :).
Really, it’s supposed to be about The Lightning Thief, and was it? NOOOOoooooo. The movie people COMPLETELY changed everything, improvised, and made it look totally ridiculous. While it was filled with action, it lacked everything else an even semi-good movie needs.
Well hey, i admit it was very different but come on, it was still similar with main details, they just hollywooded it up a bit. He still went to alot of the same places, and luke still tricked him and stuff, in fact, I think it had everything a great movie needs, action, humor, a little bit of romance, stuff to keep people at the edge of their seat, and some mystery. They had alot of the main places and characters so i think it deserved a 🙂 🙂
Yeah, it was very different. Too different in my opinion. You might as well give it a different name than The Lightning Thief because it didn’t match up with the book. Yeah, it might keep people at the edge of their seat. But the books constantly had you biting your fingernails and waiting for suspense, too. Such a good book should not be meddled with. For all the books that are made into movies, the author and the fans should make a long, long list of things to NOT change. I was excited that they were making such a great book into movie. Now I’m extremely disappointed. OK, this comment is getting really long. I’d better end.
There were so many differences! For example, there was no magic map and they got the pearls at the gateway arch. I might give it a cross between a 🙂 and a :|. I might want to compare the second book with the second movie if it ever comes out.
Two smiley faces 🙂 from us. We have not read the book yet but it is on our shortlist.
@Milan and Una: Great! We can’t wait to hear your review of the book (and how it compares to the 🙂 🙂 movie!)
finnaly a person who thinks the movie is good
I loved the book and the movie. The movie did differ from the book a bit, however, I thought they were both entertaining. BTW, how many movies out there actually match the book? They have to fit the story into an hour and a half. I sincerely hope there is a 2nd movie.
I haven’t seen the movie but i’m upset no CLARISSE!!! She’s IMPORTANT! Mostly because of the last book.
im sure theylll put clarisse in there in the next one b/c she was a key player in the story, but i think they left the spot empty in the first one so they have more options for the second movie on who to pick. Also i liked the movie a lot, i know it was different but it followed the same idea and i think it all worked together.
