First things first: I need to tell you that I work at Scholastic, which is the company that publishes The 39 Clues. But here’s something else: I don’t work on The 39 Clues at all.
And here’s the proof: Yesterday was the big release of Book 11: Vespers Rising, and my friend, Carly, brought in homemade ice cream to celebrate — BUT SHE DIDN’T SAVE ANY FOR ME! That’s right, the entire tub of Chocolate Pop Rocks ice cream was gobbled up by the people who actually do work on The 39 Clues. And that is not me.
Further proof: Just like the rest of the world, I’ve had zero access to any details about the new 39 Clues series… until now! Unbeknownst to me, some breaking book news was in the works at Scholastic, involving Cahills vs. Vespers Book 1: The Medusa Plot. And finally, that news is out there: As of yesterday, the cover and the prologue are available to the masses (unlike that darn homemade ice cream that I’ll never be able to taste). Check out the crazy-looking cover and the sneak peek on the official 39 Clues site!
Btw, I mean “crazy-looking” in the best possible way. Those Medusa hair-snakes seem like they’re about to leap off the cover, don’t they? And don’t even get me started on her creepy jaggedy-teeth mouth — yikes!
The sneak peek at the prologue is also pretty intriguing. I didn’t think it was possible to fit so many kidnappings into 11 pages! It definitely reads like a good spy novel.
Unfortunately, the world will have to wait until August 30th to actually read this particular spy novel. Good thing I have some other kid-as-spy books on my To Be Read list:
- The Genius Files: Mission Unstoppable by Dan Gutman
- The Alex Rider series by Anthony Horowitz (the last book, Scorpia Rising, just came out!)
- The On the Run series by Gordon Korman (the author of The Medusa Plot!)
Have you read any of those other books? Are you a 39 Clues fan? What are your thoughts on The Medusa Plot? Leave a comment and let me know!
