Wherever you live, I’m sure you’ve heard about the huge storm that hit the East Coast yesterday. Frankenstorm. Hurricane. Snowcane. Snowcone. Or just plain Sandy… Whatever you call it, the storm has had a major impact on many people, and our thoughts are with everyone who’s been affected by this disaster.
Nancy’s actually without power herself right now (just like the rest of Southern Manhattan). But that didn’t stop her from taking part in the #SandyReads topic online, where everyone is reporting what they’re reading during the storm and also giving recommendations to others for good books to pass the time. Nancy’s #SandyReads: The Mark of Athena by Rick Riordan (the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series).
As for me, I’ve been lucky to have electricity this whole time — and also lucky to have just purchased a copy of The Girl Who Circumnavigated Fairyland in a Ship of Her Own Making by Catherynne M. Valente. Nancy recommended the book a while back in Kidsmomo Podcast #60: Lemonade and a Leopard, so when I saw it in a bookstore during my recent vacation, I snatched it up. Even if the power goes out later, I’m prepared to read the old-fashioned way… by candlelight!
And what about you? I hope you are all safe and warm indoors as the winds howl outside. Leave a comment to share your #SandyReads, or just to say that you’re okay!
