The Breadwinner is a realistic fiction book about a girl named Parvana that lives in Afghanistan. She has a hard painful life with a living with her family. In Afghanistan, there are no human rights and even though these characters are “made up,” life in the book is what happening in Afghanistan today.
The author Deborah Ellis is a woman that cares about how both boys and girls can get equal rights and human rights. She wrote this book to inform people about equal rights. The book was suggested by my teacher to learn about human rights. It has helped me to understand how lucky I am in Canada.
The book has a strong connection Afghanistan, where these things are also happening in real life.
I think the book was good. My favorite part was the part when Parvana reunites with her family and I hated the excessive use of violence.
