The Breadwinner is a book about a young girl and her family who live in Afghanistan. Parvana the protagonist, struggled under the oppression of the Taliban rule. The major themes in this book are violence against people, human rights, lack of egalitarianism and double standards that means girls and boys have different rules For example girls can’t go to school but boys can, which is not fair we should be all equal. The important relationship are between Parvana and her family and also the friendship between Parvana and her friend Shauzia.
The author was a good writer she made me learn many things about Afghanistan especially how lucky we are to be able to go to school and have a safe houses to live in.The Breadwinner is a very good book because it teaches us about life in Afghanistan while telling a story. The author was very creative to make this story. I am very happy to be in Canada and read the story of The Breadwinner. The author also made me think of the events happening in the book, that was the best reason why to like this story.
I found the book very good I was always excited about the problems that happened.I also like the story very much because it is not really hard to read and I could understand it. But I didn’t really like the part about the puberty thing although that was a necessary part of the story. I look forward to reading the next book.
