Breaking Book News: April 2015

April 20th, 2015 by

breaking-book-newsSome really interesting stuff happened in the book world recently and I’m bursting to share it. But I can’t just grab random strangers on the street and shout, “NEW BOOK TOM ANGLEBERGER ROCKET!” So… EXTRA, EXTRA, read all about it… here! On Kidsmomo!

News from April 6th: Marvel-ous news! Origami Yoda series author Tom Angleberger plans to write Rocket and Groot: Stranded on Planet Stripmall! The novel follows Rocket Raccoon and a walking, talking tree, Groot, as they crash-land on a planet made up of 99-cent stores, nail salons, dry cleaners, maniacal robots bent on customer service, and killer toilets. Slight bummer: We’ll have to wait until March 2016 for the book to come out.

News from April 9th: J.K. Rowling visits the Empire State Building and launches her charity, Lumos USA, but doesn’t stop by to say “hi” to Nancy and Karen, two of her biggest fans. We forgive her because Lumos USA is a lovely charity that supports children living in orphanages and institutions around the world.

News from April 10th: In further Harry Potter news, actor Eddie Redmayne is a front-runner to play Newt Scamander in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them movie trilogy. Here he is making a funny gesture with his arms:

News from April 12th: Beloved author Beverly Cleary turns 99 years old. 99! NINETY-NINE!!! Btw, if book characters aged like we do, that makes Ramona Quimby approximately 42 years old.

News from April 19th: Actor Jonathan Crombie, who played Gilbert Blythe in a classic Anne of Green Gables film adaptation, passes away. 🙁 If you’re a fan of Anne of Green Gables, I recommend watching it online or requesting the DVDs from your local library!
