I think I broke it… by Hahaha me

I was practicing my handstand in my living room and came crashing to the ground. I rubbed my shoulder, wincing. Gymnasts in the Olympics made it look a lot easier than it really was! Sighing, I tried again. I just had to get this down or I would flunk gym.

My teenage brother walked into the room. “What on earth are you doing?”

“I’m trying to do a handstand,” I muttered.

“That’s not how you do it,” he said in a superior tone. “Let me show you.”

He stood in the center of the room and kicked his legs up into the air. They were a lot longer than mine, and then CRASH! His foot hit a lamp and the light went out, the bulb shattering. “WHOA!” He fell down on his back hard and the room shook.

“What did you do now?” I shrieked, inspecting the damage.

“It’s fine,” he assured me, getting up and fiddling around with the lamp. “I think.” But it didn’t flicker on. “Oops,” he said. “I think I broke it…”

We stared in silence at the destructed, demolished lamp.

Finally, I spoke. “YOU can tell Mom about this.”

Whee! I’m Flying (Kinda) by Hahaha me

If you could choose to have any superpower, what would it be?

Submitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

If I could pick any super power, I would either fly, or turn invisible. Wait — I take that back. If somebody couldn’t see me when I was invisible and threw a basketball or something my way that would NOT be nice. 🙂 Probably I would fly because this law of gravity restricts me too much, and it would be really useful if you were playing tag, or if you were on a boat was sinking in the middle of a shark feeding frenzy. Besides, flying is just COOL! I do have some experience in flying (in my dreams), so I don’t think it would be too hard to fly. If it actually was possible. If I couldn’t fly, I would love to have control of water. In the summer I could make the water temp really warm so I wouldn’t freeze when I went to the beach. 🙂

A Summer Camp Memory from Hahaha me

Tell us about your most memorable summer camp experience.

I Like Ice Cream
Submitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

I should have gotten the credit for discovering the hot chocolate machine in the dining hall, but I didn’t. Maybe that was a good thing, because later we were banned from drinking the hot chocolate at night, because apparently it had caffeine in it. Still, each morning I dutifully did my cabin chores to keep the place clean. Whichever cabin in each grade group got the most points for having a clean cabin got a prize the last night of camp. The last day, all of the girls were freaked out because we were…DUN DUN DON–tied with another cabin. Later, we found out we came out 1 point ahead of them! And the prize: I got to eat an ice cream sundae at 8:45 in the night because I was a clean freak! That is definitely a memorable camp memory: Victory, gloating and ice cream. Who cares about hot chocolate? I like ice cream.

On the Road with Hahaha me

Tell us about your dream form of transportation (plane, train, automobile, hot air balloon, submarine, etc.).

Submitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

My favorite method of travel is riding in a spacious van with air-conditioning in the summer and heating in the winter. I like traveling in the van because it’s NOT loud and unless you are driving, it’s very easy to fall asleep in when you’re going somewhere far away (which helps pass time). The scenery is awesome when it flashes by the window! Also, you don’t need to buy tickets to ride in a car like you do with a plane or train. It will be a while before I can actually DRIVE a car, but I’ll be excited when I can!

My Rules by Queen Hahaha me

Tell us what you’d do if you had your own kingdom/queendom — what kind of rules would you put in place, and what kind of treats would you give yourself?

Submitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine

If I was a queen I would

  1. Declare Thanksgiving a week long.
  2. Declare Reese’s peanut butter cups the national food :), the national bird the mockingjay, the national tree the sequoia and the national flower the rose.
  3. Take mathematics out of the school curriculum.
  4. On my birthday everybody can get a free book of their choice.
  5. Hire a bunch of scientists to find a cure for bad vision so nobody would ever have to wear glasses again!!!…!!
  6. Ban any movie or TV show rated under PG-13.
  7. Demand more sanitary public bathrooms!

If only authors could pay attention to me by Hahaha me

Tell us about an author you’d want to meet (and what you’d want to do while hanging out with them):

Submitted by Hahaha me, Age 11 from Maine:

If I could meet any author, I would like to meet Gail Carson Levine. At first I thought I would like to meet Louisa May Alcott, but then I decided she would be too old-fashioned to have a conversation with. Gail Carson Levine’s books are about adventures, and twisted fairy-tales, and show awesomeness! (I know that’s not a word.) Ella Enchanted is one of my favorite books. And it’s a Newbery Honor, so obviously some other people agree with me.

The Worst Thanksgiving by Hahaha me

February 18th, 2010 by

What are you favorite foods or food-related stories?

Submitted by Hahaha me:

Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is my one of my favorite things about Thanksgiving. So you can imagine how furious I was when I kept on falling asleep in the middle of it. Tissues were piled up next to my spot on the floor, right in front of the TV. You’d think that I would be a bit cheered by the smell of squash and turkey drifting into the living room.

But it was just as much of a challenge to smell anything than it was to stay awake.

I was sick on Thanksgiving! Whenever I had to blow my nose I would wince and mutter. “Why of all the days do I have to be sick on Thanksgiving? Maybe I have mono…”

Fortunately, I didn’t, but when we went up to my grandmother’s house to “celebrate” I was stranded on the couch. Hours later I dizzily stumbled over to the table, and tried to eat what had remained. of the meal. It hurt to open my mouth and swallow. “I can’t even eat!” I complained.

The next day I still couldn’t eat. And still the next! Finally, I recovered. Sadly, the leftovers of the Thanksgiving meal was already devoured by then. I tried not to think of it. But when I had to return to school I wore my favorite jeans and realized I had to wear a belt with it because I had gotten skinny from not eating. “I’m supposed to get fatter Thanksgiving break, not thinner!” I moaned. How had I let the yummy once-a-year feast slip through my hands?

“Meet” Deep Blue by Bat

If you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would it be?

Submitted by Bat:

I would like to “meet” Deep Blue, the supercomputer programmed to play chess. Why? We would never know if I didn’t type this: I like chess (and computers). I would also like to meet the programmers. Why? We would never know if I didn’t type this: They might be interesting to talk to.
