Al Capone Does My Shirts by, Gennifer Choldenko is a very well written book with twists and turns that you will never see coming. In the book, the setting is in 1935 and the main character is Moose Flannagan who is a baseball fanatic. Life isn’t easy if you’re Moose. For example, he has an older sister named Natalie who has mental problems(autism). The worst thing about Moose’s life is that he lives on Alcatraz with the biggest meanest criminals you can imagine. Of course, he didn’t choose to live here. His dad is a prison warden and with a reputation like that, you don’t get around a prison too good. There are barely any kids on Alcatraz besides Jimmy,Theresa, and Annie. Then the worst of all, Piper. Piper is the warden’s daughter so she thinks that she can do whatever she wants. Anyways, Natalie wants to get into this great school called the Esther P. Marrinoff school. When she applies, she gets turned down. Moose is furious! On top of that bad news, there is more. Moose recently found out that Al Capone, the worst criminal ever, does his laundry. Al happens to over hear Moose moaning about Natalie and decides to do something about it. A couple of days later, Natalie gets into the school. Moose is excited until he finds a note in his shirt. It said, your turn. What could this mean? Would Moose have to do a favor for the worst criminal ever? Well, you will have to read the rest to find out. My favorite part of this book is when Moose tries to teach Jimmy how to play baseball. I like this part because it is very funny. Therefore, if you like humor, mystery, criminals, and romance, you will love this book.
