LeakyCon Night 1: “Open at the Close”

July 14th, 2011 by

I’m not sure how we did it without Mrs. Weasley being around to nag us, but we are actually awake and out of bed this morning. And why is this such an amazing feat? Because we were out until 1 am last night — partying at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park with our fellow LeakyCon revelers!

The park was open 10 pm to 1 am just for LeakyCon attendees, and it was AWESOME. The event was called “Open at the Close,” and if you don’t know what that refers to, well, just wait until you read The Deathly Hallows (no spoilers here!).

Check out our photo gallery from the night — including lots of dedicated Harryheads wearing Hogwarts attire in the Florida heat. Plus a photo of us with our house colors!

— Nancy (Ravenclaw) and Karen (Hufflepuff)
Btw: Karen works at Scholastic and Nancy used to work there, but our jobs are not connected to LeakyCon, sadly. We’re attending for our own enjoyment — and yours — as the ridiculous fans that we are.

Video Time: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

February 3rd, 2011 by

Back in September, Nancy visited the new Harry Potter theme park in Orlando and proceeded to make me absolutely insane with jealousy by live-blogging throughout her magical experience.

Well, I FINALLY traveled to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter myself about a week ago, and you’d think that given my own suffering, I wouldn’t gloat and totally flaunt my trip in your faces… but you’d be wrong! Because now I will proceed to drive you guys crazy with envy by sharing some video footage from my time in Hogsmeade. Enjoy! (Muhahaha…)

This first video is from Ollivander’s, where we witnessed a Hogwarts newbie finding his perfect wand:

Visiting Harry Potter World (live-blogging!) Part 8

My sister just called:

Her: “Are you ever coming back?”

Me: “Uh… (actually ponders hiding somewhere in Hogwart’s) No. I’m going to stay here forever and ever!”

Her: (with absolutely no humor) “What?”

Me: “Just kidding. I’ll head back to the hotel now.”

So, alas, I’m leaving the wonderful Wizarding World of Harry Potter. 🙁

Stay tuned in next week or so for more photos! Meanwhile, enjoy some butterbeer:

Hogwart’s Castle! I’m currently in line for Ollivander’s, and afterwards I think I’ll treat myself to a tall glass of butterbeer 🙂

Currently in line for the Hogwart’s Enchanted Benches ride. (Enchanted by Hermione Granger herself, supposedly!)

The Sorting Hat keeps telling me to have fun… Pfft, duhhhh!

Dashed into a store because it started raining. Check out what they had on display!

(it drools, growls, and lunges at you too!)

Okay, the photo below is the ticket to the whole park, but I’m headed straight to HP!

Um, and yes, dippin’ dots ice cream was the first thing I ate this morning.

Visiting Harry Potter World (live-blogging!) Part 2

September 23rd, 2010 by

So, I’ve arrived in Orlando. But as you can see, this blog entry does not contain any magical pictures of the Harry Potter theme park, because… I didn’t make it in time. 🙁 But tomorrow, I swear!

Here, an Unbreakable Vow between me and Kidsmomo readers out there: I vow to go to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and tell you all about it!

I will.

*shakes hand with The Internet*

Um, I hope nothing goes wrong tomorrow, because I’ve heard Unbreakable Vows lead to curses or something.

Visiting Harry Potter World (live-blogging!) Part 1

Guess what? I’m headed to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter TODAY! I was so excited I couldn’t even get dressed this morning — stayed in my pajamas for the flight. (Also, it’s more comfy).

Unfortunately, I ran into a little detour on the way from NYC — I’m stuck in Atlanta, Georgia waiting for my connecting flight to Orlando, Florida. I’m so close! I can almost taste the butterbeer!

Okay, they’re calling me to the airport gate now… (seriously, I’m being yelled at). Stay tuned for additional coverage and photos!

Okay, I know it won’t take me six days to get there, but it sure seems like it!
