Children’s Choice Book Awards 2011

April 17th, 2011 by

Last year, Karen let you know about the super cool Children’s Choice Book Awards, which lets YOU vote on your favorite books, authors, and illustrators. Last year’s winners for favorite books turned out to be Lunch Lady and the Cyborg Substitute (Grades 3-4 Category) and Dork Diaries: Tales from a Not-so-fabulous Life (Grades 5-6 Category).

So what will it be this year? Check out the finalists!

For Grades 3-4:

For Grades 5-6

While the finalists for the Grades 5-6 category are pretty different from last year (and so hard to choose from!), there are a few returning series for Grades 3-4. Will Lunch Lady prevail again? Make sure your vote counts!

Finalists for Favorite Author include returning finalist Jeff Kinney (Diary of a Wimpy Kid series) and Rick Riordan… That’s a battle of wits and writing I don’t want get in the middle of!

What will you be voting for? Tell us why in the comments!

Nancy just noticed that if you look at the Grades 5-6 category above, the book covers say: “It’s a Book. Smile.” … and she totally did!

Kidsmomo Podcast #27: “Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer”

June 14th, 2010 by

If we had our way, Karen would be spending the summer in Australia and Nancy would be on the beach. But alas, we’re stuck at home for the season. At least we can escape into some awesome book series! From a global adventure to a medieval warzone to superhero headquarters hidden in a school — we do ’em all in our latest podcast, all about summer series:

    Download the MP3 (5.4 MB)

  • One family, two kids, 39 clues — aka our mystery book series revealed
  • Battles past, present, and whimsical — aka our summer series picks, plus a kid rec (Ranger’s Apprentice, Lunch Lady, and the Mysterious Benedict Society)
  • Our dream summer vacations… and the realization that we’re really not beach people (that’s normal, right?)

Also, don’t forget: our new theme is books about cats! So send us a review of your favorite cat book and check out these purr-fect cat books.
