She is sad because her friends wont be here for the summer and she has these thrill points that helps them now if they have the best or worst summer. Do you think she had a good summer?

In this book, there’s a girl named Stevie who’s in the sixth grade. She’s NOT SUPPOSED to be interested in boys. But she is having troubles doing that! She has a best friend,Olivia who has ALWAYS been interested in boys. But it’s weird for Stevie to like/be interested in boys. She has two sisters,Joey and Alex.Alex is older than Stevie, and Joey is younger than Stevie.I hope you understand why this book is called Cloudy with a Chance of Boys.

Judy Moody Movie Review

June 19th, 2011 by

Are you ready to have an absolutely thrill-a-delic summer? That’s certainly what Judy Moody is after in the new movie, Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer, based on the book series by Megan McDonald (and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds).

But will Judy get the double-rare experience that she wants? And more importantly, if you watch this movie, will YOU? Watch our video review to find out!

(PS – If you’re on the go — or you’re just in a mood — don’t worry, you can still listen to our review. Just download the audio.)

Movie Trailer Madness: Penguins and Puke!

April 9th, 2011 by

Have you looked outside lately? It’s spring! The birds are chirping, the sky is blue, the flowers are blooming… Oh, wait. Uh oh. It’s starting to get overcast… and now the rain is pouring down. =( Well, you could always curl up with a good book — or watch these new movie previews for some upcoming book-to-movie adaptations!

Check out Count Olaf — I mean, Jim Carrey — in Mr. Popper’s Penguins:

I don’t think literal dancing penguins were part of Richard and Florence Atwater’s book, but I fully support dancing penguins in nearly any movie.

And when you’ve d’awwwed enough about those so-called “pesty” penguins, check out this zany preview for Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer:

Roller coaster puke, a search for Bigfoot, and a new book out this summer? It sounds like my rainy spring is soon going to be a NOT bummer summer!

Let me know in the comments which upcoming book-to-movie adaptation you’re more excited about: Mr. Popper’s Penguins or Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer?

Nancy sometimes enjoys movie previews more than the actual movies themselves. The trailers sometimes just have the best parts of the movie in those two minutes!

Breaking Book News: Judy Moody Movie

May 15th, 2010 by

Judy Moody has: become famous, saved the world, predicted the future (those three things seem like they should have happened in reverse), become a doctor, declared independence, gone around the world in 8.5 days, and gone to college.

And now, she’s going to the movies! Well, not going to the movies, but starring in one! The Judy Moody series, created by author Megan McDonald and illustrator Peter Reynolds, will be brought to life on the silver screen — in a movie titled Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer.

Author Megan McDonald co-wrote the movie screenplay, so I think it’ll probably be true to the original characters. The movie will be live action — with human actors* — but I’m guessing they’ll use illustrator Peter Reynolds’ drawings for inspiration. I mean, with something like this… how can you not?

From Judy Moody Predicts the Future.

But don’t fret, book purists! When the movie comes out, Candlewick Press will also release a full-color hardback, Judy Moody Goes Hollywood. If you can’t wait that long, Judy Moody, Girl Detective, is coming out on August 10 (is there anything that girl can’t do?!).

There’s no news on casting or exact release date yet, but the director will be John Schultz, who directed Aliens in the Attic. The movie will be produced by Gary Magness and Sarah Siegel-Magness, who decided they wanted the film rights to the Judy Moody series after their daughter read one of the books. Thank you, daughter of Gary Magness and Sarah Siegel-Magness! 🙂

Judy is in 3rd grade, and her brother, Stink, is in 2nd grade. Who do you think should play them in the movie?

— Nancy

*You’re probably wondering why Nancy specified human actors. She’s pretty bummed that robot actors are still discriminated against in Hollywood.
