Yesterday, a couple friends and I went to a working farm in upstate New York, and of course we could barely contain our excitement as we visited with all the animals. I’m not gonna lie — we sometimes pushed little kids out of the way to get better photos for ourselves. But I swear, I was only thinking of you, loyal Kidsmomo readers, because I wanted to share my pics with you!
We saw geese, chickens, sheep, turkeys, cows, and even beehives, but my favorites of the day were definitely the pigs. Check out these adorable porkers:
I nicknamed that last little guy “Wilbur,” after the famous pig from Charlotte’s Web. Unfortunately, I’m no genius spider, so he refused to talk with me when I tried to engage him in conversation. But at least he posed for my photo!
I guess I’ll just have to rely on literary pig tales if I want to know what’s going on in these swine minds. Here are my pig picks:
- Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White — of course!
- Babe, The Gallant Pig by Dick King-Smith
- The Freddy the Pig series by Walter R. Smith
- Just a Little Ham by Joan Carris
- The Mercy Watson books by Kate DiCamillo
- Quentin Corn by Mary Stolz
Wow, who knew there were sow many books about pigs? Do you have a favorite pig book I’ve left off my list? Let me know in the comments!
