Poached: Book Review

July 1st, 2014 by

poachedA few years ago, I reviewed Belly Up, an awesome book about a murdered hippo at a zoo and one kid’s mission to solve the crime. Well, now the same animal detective is back in Poached by Stuart Gibbs.

This time, Teddy is the prime suspect in the theft of a koala that the zoo is borrowing from Australia. So not only does Teddy need to prove his innocence, but he also needs to locate the koala (Kazoo)—or else Kazoo will starve to death without his special eucalyptus leaves.

Just like in Belly Up, it’s fun to get a behind-the-scenes look at the operations of a huge zoo/amusement park. And just like in Belly Up, it’s enjoyable to follow Teddy’s investigation as he interviews suspects, goes undercover, and lands in a whole lot of trouble.

If you’re a fan of HootScat, Chomp, or Flush by Carl Hiaasen, this is a great book for you. Ditto if you’ve enjoyed Stuart Gibbs’ Spy School books. And I think you’ll like it if you’re a fan of mysteries in general.

What’s YOUR favorite animal? Tell me in the comments!
