The Colossus Rises: Book Review

colossus-risesAlright, mythology scholars, you may be experts on Greek, Egyptian, Roman, and Norse myths, but what about stories about the lost world of Atlantis? Stumped?

Well, don’t worry about it — no one knows for sure how it sank or whether it even existed! But the Seven Wonders series by Peter Lerangis suggests one possibility and takes you right into the action!

The Seven Wonders books are about four kids who discover they’re descendants of Atlantean royalty — a family who acquired magical abilities when they harnessed the power of mystical objects called loculi.

Now a race is on between followers of the two fighting brothers in the royal family who tore their kingdom apart and caused the destruction of Atlantis. But who are the good guys and who are the bad guys? It almost doesn’t matter to Jack, Marco, Aly, and Cass (aka “the Select”) because they’re forced onto one side —  after being kidnapped and told that because of their special Atlantean genes, they’ll die without the special treatments they receive from their captors.

So starts their adventures in Seven Wonders Book #1: The Colossus Rises, which is pretty much non-stop action. Obviously, I recommend the book to all Rick Riordan fans, as well as followers of The 39 Clues (which Peter Lerangis also wrote for).

If you’ve already read The Colossus Rises, leave me a comment and tell me how you liked it. Do you like Jack as much as Percy? Are you looking forward to Book #2: Lost in Babylon (coming April 2014)?

Karen has to admit, she doesn’t recall much about the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, even though she knows she learned about them in school. Guess you never know when Social Studies is going to come in handy — in saving the world!
